Thesis: Qfwfq cannot escape from his inner self; he is trapped in his own fantasy, but gradually realizes what is reality.
Q was not able to persuade and follow his own steps to his own decisions. He was lost in love and doesn't seem to be the one guiding Lll, but Lll is the one pushing Q on, “I, with slower and somewhat clumsier movements, followed her,” (Calvino 94). This shows that Q is not able to express himself. He is misunderstanding the situation. He would follow Lll's every action, but because of this, he doesn't seem to notice what is ahead of him. When Q gets separated from Lll, Q would have no idea what to do and he would be stuck with thoughts wondering, “More than one in the past her irony has disarmed me; but the icy sensation that filled me at this remark was so careful that I would rather not have seen her anymore than to have to face the subject again,” (Calvino 77). Q is very hesitant, he thinks everything would be what he wanted till this point. It is like he is running away from the truth instead of surpassing it. All he thinks about is that it is Lll's fault. He doesn't notice his mistakes. His icy sensation proves that he did not completely understand his own feelings, yet he ignores them and hopes they will vanish.
Q is not able to learn from his mistakes and move on to realize. He thinks that things are still the same as before. When he started to understand Lll's true feelings, he was stuck, “It was a hard blow for me. But after all, what could I do about it? I went my way, in thee midst of the world's transformations, being transformed myself...I encountered one who was somebody more than I was: she was announced the future,” (Calvino 81). From this point Q starts to realize what he has been doing wrong from the beginning, but it was too late to change as he assumed. If he would not notice about his own feelings and expressed it, this wouldn't have happened. He was in his own world's transformations to being fully transforming his inner-self. He has changed himself, for Lll has made him notice something about him that was not right. Now he fully understands what he is suppose to do. He would never look back at his actions for it is the future that he should look forward to. Q is starting to look for a new beginning for he is not trapped in his own fantasy. From being so confused about his feelings, Q has finally understand the world is different as it seems and it has transformed.
In “The Dinosaurs,” Q has realized the transformation from his world to the future. He seems to be very confused and lost at first, but learned to adjust. He now has a different feeling, “Now I recognized the greatness of spirit that had made us choose to disappear rather than live in a world no longer suited for us,” (Calvino107). These two stories kind of composed Q's character and they both seem to fit together as one. When Q was put into another world, he learns to realize the transformations that was happening near the ending. Q has realized he was not the one he was before. He doesn't seem to be upset at this point, but is adjusting to the situation as it is. It seems that Q from this story has learned from his mistakes and learned to change his future so that he would not follow the same decision from the other Q. He has learned to express his inner-self and break away from the wall that separated him from reality. He slowly is adjusting to another path and just moving forward and not looking at his past. Because he would not turn back, he will become stronger and overcome more challenges. In this point Q has finally transformed himself from not being able to escape from his inner-self to a free person.
